Mike Cave

Candidate for Quesnel City Council

Former Councillor (2008-2014)

Having served 2 terms previously I bring immediate practical experience to our council. I can step in and hit the ground running.A central priority facing our city at this moment is the state of our downtown core. I believe in a listening-first approach to these pressing issues facing downtown, directly engaging with taxpayers, local business owners, shopkeepers, and the whole community to hear the realities that they are facing every day. We absolutely need to care for the vulnerable, that is a hallmark of our society, but also care for the concerns of the people who keep our beautiful, vibrant downtown going and for everyone in the community to feel safe and secure while they enjoy it.We are still navigating changing industrial landscapes as a province. Quesnel is at the forefront of that. For years and years forestry has been our main provider of income for the community. Right now we are facing pressures that have been threatening our reliance on it. The current chance of another mill closing is bringing all these pressures into focus again. As a council one of our main priorities should be - How can we maintain our local businesses? What can we do to promote growth for outside businesses to come here? Are there secondary manufacturing opportunities? We need to work with the mining industry to position ourselves to become a hub for local mining in and around the area. To the east and to the west.We have some hard economic choices facing us at this moment. Let's be honest about that. We have industry downturns happening at the same time big capital projects are coming at us. A water treatment plant, an RCMP building, our Rec Centre has aged out, a new Shelter. We are carrying debt from other projects as well. All of this and including regular infrastructure maintenance and renewal. We must build up our financial resilience. We must focus on core municipal services - roads, water, public safety and debt reduction. We must continue to rebuild all our reserves so we can best absorb any future economic uncertainties without placing an unfair burden on local residents.I ask for your support on October 17, 2026. Elect Mike Cave to Quesnel City Council.
